Taking the Guesswork Out of Conscious Shopping

Let’s be honest – the number one rule in becoming a Conscious Consumer is to reduce your purchasing and consuming only what you need.

The second rule is, when you do purchase, you do so responsibly.  In other words, do a little research on, and beyond, the label to know that the product or service that you are purchasing does not:

  • Deplete our natural resources,
  • Deplete the Earth’s biodiversity,
  • Add to our waste systems,
  • Ruin our natural environments,
  • Add to social injustice or inequality, and
  • Cost too much to be affordable.

In other words, purchase and use a product or service that meets our triple-bottom line of planet, people and profit. Your research and consumption of products proves what brand you wish to support, so why not support those brands that are also doing their part for the planet and people?.

The third rule is to reuse what you’ve purchased as much as possible. So, when it comes time to (re)purchase, you’ve reduced your purchasing two-fold. Once your purchase is no longer needed, it should then be donated or recycled so as not to contribute to the waste stream (i.e., landfill).

Conscious Consumer Benefits

Reducing your purchases and consumption have major, positive impacts on the environment’s health (by reducing the natural resources used), our health (reducing stress and time spent shopping) and finances (well, that’s a no brainer).

That said, we still need things so consumer consumption is a part of our lives.  Additionally, we are blessed with many products and services to choose from.  However, which ones are actually best for our overall environmental, personal, and financial health?

This is where ‘Rule 2’ above comes in so you can become a Conscious Consumer – learning to purchase with your triple bottom line in mind.  In other words, no longer just think how much the product or service will cost financially.

Instead, consider how much that product or service cost the environmental and social components in its production, in addition to its financial cost (i.e., its triple bottom line).

By following the triple-bottom line mindset when purchasing, it will reduce your eco and carbon footprints, which ultimately helps protect the health of your environment, your own health, and the health of your wallet.

About the Conscious Consumer Directory

There are many brands whose main focus is to provide solely eco-friendly or socially ethical products or services – not both – while making their products and services financially affordable. These are great goals and positive shift in doing business.

Therefore, these brands are included in the CORR Concepts Conscious Consumer directory with the goal to provide insight as to their mission, operations, and overall corporate social responsibility.

You’ll notice third-party certification logos attached to products and brands. These third-party certifying organizations have done the leg work for you to ensure your product is eco-friendly, ethical and/or sustainable.

The more transparency provided, the more this benefits you. Be patient with me as I continually roll out more brands, product and corresponding information on CORR Concepts.

Again, CORR Concepts is here to help take out the guess work so you can shop consciously. So, if you don’t see anything you’re looking for, or have any questions, please reach out to me at contact@corrconcepts.com, and keep coming back to the Conscious Consumer Directory for future listings.
